The birthplace of man, volcanoes, and the Great Migration

Nature’s oldest pilgrimage plays out on the endless plains of the Serengeti National Park and the Maasai Mara National Reserve, as over a million wildebeest along with gazelle and zebra stragglers charge towards better grazing areas. A short way south, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area holds the largest intact caldera in the world and the so-called seat of mankind in Oldupai Gorge. Spanning across Kenya and Tanzania, the Great Migration has been listed as one of the natural wonders of the world. Not only does it offer incredible views of the plains dotted with huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle, but the rivers are often infested with large Nile crocodiles lying in wait. The Ngorongoro Crater’s protective perimeters, fertile volcanic soil, and diverse terrain have made it a wildlife sanctuary for its inhabitants. The nearby Oldupai Gorge was the site at which early hominin remains have been found. Remnants of volcanic eruptions, early human civilisations, and the ongoing ancient pilgrimage of the Great Migration promise a wealth of entertainment for those visiting the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem.
